Lagrange Partners with Polymer to Further Blockchain Interoperability

May 2, 2024

Lagrange Labs is excited to announce that it is strategically partnering with Polymer Labs to enhance blockchain interoperability by combining zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs with the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) Protocol. Specifically, this integration is set to combine the capabilities of Lagrange’s State Committee, acting as a ZK light client, with Polymer’s interoperability hub for Ethereum, which leverages the IBC standard — thereby delivering more reliability and faster transactions for Optimistic rollups.

How the Integration Will Work

The integration involves the following steps, as illustrated by the diagram below:

  1. Operators of Lagrange State Committees generate ZK proofs attesting to the execution of L2 chains (currently available with Base and Optimism).
  2. The attestation proofs are consumed by Polymer and an aggregated ZK proof encompassing multiple transactions across different rollups can be generated.
  3. Polymer is then able to send the aggregated ZK proof to destination chains via a relayer.

Unlocking New Frontiers with Lagrange and Polymer

This approach, leveraging Lagrange’s ZK primitives and Polymer’s IBC clients, results in decreased cost and complexity for verifying individual chain states and also provides a more efficient and reliable way to connect different blockchains. Lagrange being an Actively Validated Service (AVS) on EigenLayer and Polymer’s integration with EigenDA also means increased shared security through EigenLayer’s restaking model.

The Lagrange and Polymer integration, supported by EigenLayer’s restaking framework, signifies an important step forward in blockchain interoperability, ushering in improved efficiency, security, and scalability for the Ethereum ecosystem.

In addition to this integration, Lagrange and Polymer will also explore future collaboration initiatives, including:

  • Deploying a State Committee to attest to the state of Polymer’s L2
  • Expanding State Committee and IBC support to new rollup ecosystems
  • Integrating Lagrange’s ZK Coprocessor with Polymer’s interoperability capabilities

About Lagrange Labs

Lagrange Labs is the creator and distributor of a new Zero-Knowledge Coprocessing protocol that enables verifiable computations at big data scale across various blockchains. Its unique ZK Coprocessing approach involves a decentralized network of nodes that execute computations off-chain and generate ZK proofs of the results to submit on-chain, in a hyper-parallel manner, thereby unlocking significant efficiency and cost gains. By providing hyper-scalable proving , Lagrange opens the door for innovations in cross-chain interoperability and applications requiring complex computations over big data.
